Carol and John Woodmansee are vigorous supporters of the safe extraction of natural gas in Wayne County. They fully believe that the area is suffering through a depression and is badly in need of some sort of industry. Preston Area Elementary School used to have an enrollment of over 400 students and is now under 200! The main reason for this is the lack of employment opportunity in the area. The young people of Northern Wayne County find it necessary to seek careers in distant counties and states. The population is aging and that trend must not continue. A community needs young families to be healthy and flourish. To have young families, good jobs are essential. The decision to support natural gas extraction in the area was not made lightly.

We all want the water to remain pure and the fields and woods green and lush. It is our belief that gas extraction can be done safely. Over a million natural gas wells have been drilled and fractured in the US since the 1950's, without fracturing contaminating one aquifer. They are very good odds!

Carol and Congressman Chris Carney after sharing a discussion on the power and scope of the DRBC and how the federal government fits into the puzzle.

Development pressure will continue as people look to our area for retirement and second homes. We embrace all our tourists, as well as vacationers. They are very important to our economy and community. But, they are not enough to sustain the area. The opportunities and employment offered by natural gas operations in the area must be considered. It will create dust, noise and some discomfort initially. We acknowledge that. What opportunity comes without effort and sacrifice? We feel the opportunity far outweighs the negatives. Northern Wayne County is suffocating economically. People are losing homes and properties to foreclosure and bankruptcy. We have determined that natural gas extraction is the only life raft our sinking populace can find in the this sea of economic misery.

After considering all the information available, we have determined that we need to not only accept gas drilling in our area, but to work diligently and aggressively to help make it a reality!

Carol and John are proud to have joined The Northern Wayne Property Owners Alliance. This organization of well over a thousand area property owners is working very hard for safe natural gas extraction. Please visit www.nwpoa.info and learn more about this active and much appreciated grass roots organization.

We are still trying to determine how the Delaware River Basin Commission has managed to become such a powerful and negative force in the economy of Wayne County. That organization which is comprised of the states of New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, along with the federal government was formed under President John Kennedy to manage the use of, and commerce on, the Delaware River.

Carol meets with State Representative Sandra Major and John Heinz, Pennsylvania's representative on the DRBC.

Somehow, this group, the DRBC, has come to dictate many areas of water and land usage in Wayne County and is presently attempting to yet again extend its power and influence. The NWPOA organized five bus loads of property owners to travel to Trenton, New Jersey on July 14 to express to that esteemed body the great displeasure of the populace of Northern Wayne County. Speakers were allowed two minutes to voice their concerns. Carol spoke and her impassioned speech can be seen at:

If you take the time to watch this clip, you will come away with some understanding of our disgust with the DRBC's inaction, and our determination to encourage safe natural gas extraction in our area. Carol shows strong emotions in this video.

We are often asked about how the potential gas drilling has affected real estate values in the area. Land values have gone up, without question. Most people are doing their best to afford their acreage until royalties become realities. Those that do list are asking higher prices and often retain their mineral rights and royalties. Property that has no gas lease is especially valuable as buyers have the option of leasing for thousands an acre, or keeping their property free from the efforts of the energy companies. Homes on small lots, especially in close proximity to gas drilling, may suffer short term, but as the drilling finishes and the property is returned to its former beauty, that issue will pass. There is the added advantage that there will be more money, as well as potential buyers, in the area. That will have a positive effect on property values.
